CONCEPT:
We will be talking about sexism and how the "Famouns 5" is related to this

SEXISM: Sexism can be a belief that one gender / sex is superior or better than the other. AKA. prejudice or discrimination against a persons sex or gender.

IMPORTANCE: It's harmful and can produce feelings of worthlessness, fear, insecurity, etc. It affects all genders and can create intimidation to fit into gender stereotypes.

THE FAMOUS 5
The 'Famous 5' is a group of 5 women who petitioned in the Persons Case; for the womens rights to: work in the Senate, and the recognition of women to no longer be denied of rights

PERSONS CASE + SENATE: Work in the Senate: constitutional ruling for the rights of women to be appointed in the SENATE; allowing them to working both the House of Commons and the Upper House

Their contributions to women's rights in Canada has varied widely in 2000 and even earned a bronze statue titled: Women Are Persons!

MORE: The group was led by Emily Murphy and had: Henrietta Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, and Irene Parlby.
Altogether, the women worked in numerous campaigns for women's rights back in 1880s and 1890s.

CASE: The case started in the Supreme Court of Canada in 1927, but was decided in 1929 by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. They've successfully won the case, and took an important placement in Canadian History.

WORKING TOGETHER TO BETTER OUR SOCIETY:

1 ) Avoid sexist language by:
using gender neutral ("Good Morning, Everyone!") or both feminine and masculine ("Hello Ladies and Gentlemen") when talking to mixed audiences,

2) Use proper pronouns ( she / her to girls, he / him to boys, ) OR use pronouns the person desires

3 ) Treat all genders and sexes equally and think of them as all the same

4 ) Defend people falling to victims of sexism
